diy: the birkin jeans

this is a hybrid of my two favorite things- jane birkin in that crochet dress, and soft vintage levis…
start with:
- vintage skinny jeans (medium or faded wash, preferred)
- vintage crocheted doily (large circular shape is best for drape)
- scissors
- needle & thread
- straight pins
- iron
- measuring tape
- seam ripper
- stitch witchery (no-sew fusible adhesive)
take your seam ripper and let out the hem on the jeans…(new rolled hems look too perfect). press open the hem with a hot iron. measure up about 16″ (i’m 5’9, so adjust to be below your knee cap). use seam ripper to open up side seam 16″. use stitch witchery to fold under (1/2″)- and create a clean hem at side seam- use iron to secure stitch witchery. lay jeans flat and measure your negative space (should be triangular shaped), and cut doily the size of the negative space, + 3/4″ on sides of triangle, for seam allowance. make sure you use the fancy edge of the doily to align as the new hem. pin doily into place. use needle and thread to blind stitch into place, along seam, so stitches can’t be seen from exterior view. total project time = 3 hrs.
