Fuck it- Fishtale braids are just so much more chic than regular braids. The major difference is that fishtales only use 2 sections instead of three, however the principal is the same. Outside over and under the opposite side. I found better sketches of how this is done here

    I saw them in an ulta-corny editorial long ago in my then-favorite magazine: Girl’s Life. Have done nothing but ever since.
