diy: loopy scarf
this is my latest diy project/ catastrophe/ stroke of genius… the loopy scarf.
start with:
- chunky cable knit scarf (or, you can make your own). mine is about 8ft x 12inches.
- (x3) skeins of Lion Brand “Thick & Quick” Yarn.
- (x1) latch hook rug tool (similar to this.)
this was my first foray into latch hooking, so i watched this cute little video on YouTube. generally, this technique is used for rug-making, but you can integrate the concept for scarves, knit vests, beanies etc.

Your a fucking knitting genius.
that is fantastic!
thanks breezy!
happy festivus,
valerie
if i had the patience i would knit myself one
sadly im anything but patient
the result is great though. im a real scarf fan
they compliment nearly every outfit
well done, it looks wonderful

I want one!
How’d you get it to be loopy like that? instead of just the two string ends? hope that question somewhat makes sense?
very cool idea.
loove your diys, so…constructive
I think I have maybe 3 scarves that I knitted and abandoned somewhere in the corner. Great effect!
gorgeous.well done Val.this makes me wish i could knit!

Didn’t notice the link. Thank you!!
hi bri-
i basically layed a strand over the top of the handle, near the hand grip. then i went into the scarf, came out the other side, and layed a loop (same yarn , un-cut) across where the rounded end lies, then pulled it thru the hole. i think if you play with it, you’ll get the right effect. just don’t cut your string, and tie knits periodically, as you make loops.
kristin is right, you are a knitting genious. val, you seriously have the greatest/most inovative diys ever!
Dude you are an amazing diyer, I wish I were you! I especially love this loopy scarf, such a one of a kind neck sculpture – gorgeous! I have a street fashion blog and would love to link to you girls, I have heard there are special blogging secret etiquette codes for these things that I do not know. I would just like to ask you nicely if I can put a link to bleachblack on my page, y’all are my absolute favorite first check so that woud make me soo happy! thanks and love love the scarf.
